New £3,750 Government Grant Makes Going Electric More Affordable Than Ever

A new government grant offers up to £3,750 off the cost of a brand-new electric car, making it easier than ever to make the switch to cleaner, cheaper driving. Available from 16 July 2025, the scheme supports eco-friendly vehicles and cuts running costs by up to £1,500 a year.

New £3,750 Government Grant Makes Switching to Electric Easier Than Ever

The government has launched a brand-new Electric Car Grant designed to make owning a new electric vehicle (EV) more affordable — with savings of up to £3,750 available from 16 July 2025.

This new scheme is part of a major push to support the switch to cleaner, zero-emission driving and encourage greener manufacturing in the UK. If you’ve been thinking about going electric, now is the perfect time.

What’s on Offer?
Up to £3,750 off the price of a brand-new electric car.
Available on vehicles priced at £37,000 or less.
Two grant levels:

£3,750 for the most sustainably manufactured electric cars.
£1,500 for vehicles that meet key environmental standards.
The grant not only helps cut the upfront cost, but EV drivers can also save up to £1,500 a year in running costs compared to petrol or diesel cars.

Who Qualifies?
The grant is available on selected new electric cars that meet strict environmental standards — encouraging manufacturers to reduce carbon emissions not just from the cars themselves, but also during production.

A full list of eligible vehicles will be available from the Department for Transport and updated regularly as more vehicles qualify.

Grants start from 16 July 2025 and will run until at least 2029, or until funds run out.
More Support for Electric Drivers
Alongside the new car grant, the government is also investing in better charging infrastructure:

£25 million for cross-pavement charging options (great for those without driveways).
£30 million for installing chargepoints at commercial depots.
£8 million for NHS site charging.
New signage rules to help drivers find EV hubs from major roads.
These improvements are part of a larger £6 billion private investment in EV charging, aiming to make recharging as easy and convenient as filling up.

Why Go Electric Now?
With lower running costs, better infrastructure, and up to £3,750 off a new car, there’s never been a better time to switch to an electric vehicle.
